Fixed bridges differ from other types of dental bridges because they are permanently attached to two teeth using dental crowns. This means that they are not removable, and that healthy tooth material must be removed from the abutment teeth before the bridge can be attached. Since fixed bridges are permanently attached to healthy teeth, they offer a strong hold that other types of bridges cannot achieve.
A fixed dental bridge is a good alternative for restoring your missing teeth if you want to avoid invasive implant surgery, do not want to wear a removable partial denture, or you are looking for a more affordable option. Compared to dental implants, fixed bridges have a shorter treatment time, and they are usually covered (at least partially) by dental insurance.
Fixed bridges will not shift or move while eating, speaking or smiling, which are common issues among patients who have partial dentures. To find out if a fixed bridge is right for you, or to see if you may be a good candidate for an alternative treatment like a dental implant, schedule a consultation at Rio Vista Family Dentistry & Orthodontics today.
After you’ve been approved for a fixed bridge by Dr. Reyes or Dr. Bonifacio, you’ll come in for your first appointment. Your mouth will be cleaned and numbed, and your abutment teeth will be prepared to receive dental crowns. Next, impressions and images of your teeth will be taken and sent to a third-party dental lab where your bridge will be manufactured.
In the meantime, you will wear a temporary bridge that will allow you to eat, speak, and smile with confidence while you permanent bridge is created. Once we receive your permanent bridge, you’ll come back in and it will be bonded permanently into place.
