Chew on This

Invisalign is quickly becoming a preferred alternative to braces, thanks to its fast treatment times and nearly invisible design.

Enjoy your favorite foods throughout your treatment— clear aligners are removable, which means there are no dietary restrictions involved.

Removable aligners allow you to clean your teeth more effectively compared to traditional braces, lessening your chances of tooth decay during treatment.

Spend less time in the dentist’s chair and avoid painful adjustments.

You won’t need to worry about wires and rubber-bands getting in the way when you eat, speak, or smile.

Good Candidates for Invisalign

Is Invisalign Right for Me?

Invisalign is a fantastic alternative to traditional braces, but it’s not right for everyone. In most cases, Invisalign can be used to treat minor-to-moderate orthodontic issues. Problems like crowding, crooked teeth, and gaps in your smile are usually treatable with Invisalign. Minor bite and jaw position issues can also sometimes be treated with clear aligner.

However, Invisalign usually cannot be used to treat extremely crooked teeth or serious jaw/bite malpositioning, such as a major overbite, underbite or crossbite. To find out if you are a good candidate for Invisalign, we recommend scheduling a consultation with Dr. Peralta.

understanding the Process

How Does Invisalign Work?

The process begins with a comprehensive orthodontic consultation and evaluation at Rio Vista Family Dentistry & Orthodontics. Dr. Peralta will examine your mouth and take dental impressions, x-rays, and images of your teeth to determine if Invisalign is the right option for you. If so, she will work closely with Invisalign to create your personalized treatment plan.

When your aligners arrive, you’ll come back to our office to pick them up, and your treatment will begin! It is important to wear your aligners for 20-22+ hours per day for the best results. Usually, you will switch to a new set every 2 weeks, according to Dr. Peralta’s instructions. You’ll come back to our office every 4-6 weeks for a quick checkup and to receive your next several sets of aligners.

How Long Will I Wear

Invisalign Aligners?

For most patients, treatment requires between 20-24 sets of aligners, meaning that the average treatment time is just under a year. Note, however, that this can vary quite a bit based on your orthodontic needs and your diligence when it comes to wearing your aligners. Dr. Peralta will give you an estimate of the length of your treatment during your initial consultation.

Get the Most out of Treatment

Ensure the Best Results

By wearing your aligners consistently for 22+ hours per day, or 20 hours at a minimum, you will be able to get the most effective treatment possible for your orthodontic needs. Unlike braces, Invisalign is removable, but you should only remove your aligners to brush, floss, eat, or drink (except water). If you do not wear your aligners diligently, your treatment will fall behind, which will delay your results.

Caring for Your Clear Aligners

When you take your aligners out to eat and drink, it is important to put them safely in their carrying case so they don’t get lost or damaged accidentally. Brushing or using mouthwash after eating is a good idea, and you should also rinse your aligners every time you take them out. At night, brush your aligners gently with warm water and unscented antibacterial soap. Use soap that rinses away cleanly to avoid any kind of aftertaste.
