ClearCorrect is a great option for some patients, but it’s not right for everyone. Clear plastic aligners like ClearCorrect are typically only recommended to those who have minor to moderate orthodontic issues. For example, ClearCorrect may be right for you if you have issues like slightly crooked or crowded teeth, gaps in your smile, or a minor bite alignment issue.ClearCorrect may not be effective for those who have major orthodontic problems like extremely crooked/rotated teeth, or major bite/jaw alignment issues like a serious overbite or crossbite. For these kinds of complex orthodontic issues, braces are usually a much better option.
The process will begin with a comprehensive orthodontic consultation with Dr. Peralta at Rio Vista Family Dentistry & Orthodontics. At your appointment, she will determine if you are a good candidate and work with you to determine your orthodontic goals. Next, she will take impressions, x-rays, and images of your mouth. She will work with ClearCorrect to develop your treatment plan and create your first sets of aligners. After about 4 weeks, you’ll come in and get your first several sets of aligners. It is important to wear them for 20-22+ hours per day, usually for about 2 weeks per set. You will come in for a quick checkup and to get your next several sets of aligners about every 4-6 weeks, depending on your treatment plan.
Each aligner is worn for about 2 weeks, and most patients need between 20-24 sets of aligners to correct their smile, so the average treatment time is under a year. This can vary depending on each patient’s individual needs. Patients with minor orthodontic issues could finish treatment more quickly, while those with more serious alignment problems may need a longer treatment time. Dr. Peralta will discuss your expected treatment time during your initial consultation so you know what to expect.
The most effective way to get quick, beautiful results is to follow Dr. Peralta’s instructions exactly during your treatment, and to wear your aligners for at least 20 hours per day. If you fail to wear your aligners diligently, your treatment will fall behind, costing you both time and money. Ideally, you should only remove your aligners to eat, drink, brush, and floss to keep your treatment on track.
ClearCorrect is a type of clear aligner system made from a different type of plastic than Invisalign. Other differences include cost, treatment options, and design of the aligners. Invisalign has its own brand of plastic aligners called SmartTrack.
While they’ve been developed after testing numerous different types of plastic over many years, they’re also much more expensive. Invisalign aligners utilize thermoplastic materials while ClearCorrect uses polyurethane resin. Invisalign’s aligners are much thicker, making them considerably more durable and more effective at more severely crooked teeth.
However, the thinness of ClearCorrect aligners makes them less noticeable and more manageable. They are, however, more prone to damage, making them a considerably cheaper option. The treatment options available for ClearCorrect include limited 6 (6 aligners), limited 12 (12 aligners), and unlimited (no limit on your aligners).
ClearCorrect has a much lower starting price compared to Invisalign, starting at just $2000 compared to Invisalign’s $5000 for their cheapest aligner treatment. However, the unlimited treatment options are about the same for both companies.
Any aligner system that uses plastic aligners to move your teeth into new positions will cause some level of discomfort, especially in the beginning. While this can be uncomfortable and hard to adapt to, it helps to remember that the discomfort means the treatment is working.
As your aligners move your teeth, your bite changes. In addition to the force being applied to your teeth to shift them, you’re also applying force to areas that aren’t used to it because of changes in your bite. The good news is that discomfort mostly occurs when you change to a new set of aligners.
Over the 2 weeks of wearing the aligners, your teeth move and the aligners don’t feel as tight. The first few days are when you will experience the most pressure, so try putting them in at night so you can sleep through most of it.
You can also take anti-inflammatory pain medication and suck on an ice cube. It may be helpful to stick to soft foods when your teeth are feeling sore. Avoid hard foods like nuts which will place a lot of pressure on your teeth.
Another possibility for discomfort is that your aligners aren’t seated properly. Your aligners should be pressed evenly against your teeth. To ensure they are, you can use ClearCorrect chewies. You bite down on them for a few minutes until your aligners are snugly fit on all of your teeth.
Many insurance plans do cover clear aligner treatments such as ClearCorrect as long as you meet their eligibility standards. There is typically a certain dollar amount or percentage that they are willing to cover for orthodontic treatment across your lifetime.
However, not all insurance plans cover ClearCorrect, because they may consider it to be a purely cosmetic treatment. The best way to find out if your insurance would cover your treatment is to contact them directly and ask for the details.
